Groups and school trips
Hamborch för Quiddjes!
We translate: Hamburg for Non-Hamburgians!
In Hamburg a 'Quiddje' is someone who has come from 'outside', especially if they were not born in Hamburg. These are the people we are looking for here; we would love to tell them something about our city. The goal of our tailor-made German course programmes for groups and school classes from all over the world is to let your students experience the City of Hamburg and the region of Northern Germany – and our language, with a lot of fun included.
This is our offer, which we will obviously adjust in accordance with your ideas and wishes.
Our German language course
We are offering you a language course of 20 class hours of 45 mins. per week in small level groups of up to 15 students. We want to make sure that your students can immerse quickly in the German language through varied and playful teaching forms, getting lots of chances to use what they have just learnt.
If you have a particular interest in any special subject or would like to change the number of hours, we will certainly find solutions for your wishes. It is understood that all learning materials will be available free of charge for your group. At the end of the course all participants receive a certificate of attendance.
An attractive culture and leisure programme
For instance, we are taking your students on our Hamburg town rally, which we can also offer as a theme-based programme. Here the focus is on a playful way to explore the city and use the language at the same time.
Sports and meeting people are also on the agenda: weather allowing and based on your interest, this might be canoeing on the river Alster, a barbecue on Elbe beach, bowling, beach volleyball, free climbing or playing games in the park.
Where appropriate, we will prepare and evaluate the culture programme in class. This is especially important with serious topics, e.g. if you plan a visit to the Concentration Camp Memorial Neugamme or if the Emigration Museum is particularly interesting for your students.
We organise (weekend) trips to the famous Wattenmeer tidelands, to Berlin or to Lübeck with an excusion to the Baltic Sea. Or would you rather see Bremen followed by a visit to the fantastic climate exhibition at Klimahaus in Bremerhaven?
Just take your pick and we'll plan this for you!
We offer single or double rooms for your students with private landlords and landladies. Hosts may be very different from one another. Usually they are single (working) people with or without children.
We see and check all available rooms personally and are in close contact with our landlords and landladies. Furnishing and facilities are functional, yet cosy. Bedding and towelling are provided. In agreement with your host, washing machines may usually be used. The bathroom and kitchen are shared with your host. WLAN / WiFi i.e., internet access is usually provided – however, not necessarily. If this is the case, the use of a surf-stick or extra access organised through your students' mobile telephone provider will help.
In general, our accommodation options can be reached by public transport within 30 minutes. Travel times such as this are quite common for us Hamburg locals.
You may also book your students' lodgings including half-board or full board. With this option, students will have breakfast and an evening meal with their host families. With full board we additionally supply a warm meal for lunch close to the school.
It is also possible, of course, to organise accommodation for your students in dormitories in hostels in town. One hostel, which we particularly like working with is Youth Hostel 'auf dem Stintfang', a very modern house, offering, amongst other things, a fantastic view over Hamburg harbour and the new concert hall 'Elbphilharmonie'..
We book accommodation for accompanying teachers, group leaders or chaperons on request, usually in single rooms with breakfast at a ***hotel in the city centre. You will have lunch with your students.
You and your group will be picked up at Hamburg airport or the railway station (or at the harbour, of course).
All participants receive a day, week or month pass for Hamburg's public transport (HVV) during your stay with us.
Any questions? Suggestions? Ideas? We'll always be there for you!
